Since March 2005 the Visual Arts & Media Officer has been working with young people from the EASY group to begin programming the Young People’s Gallery at The Dick. The Young Curators have been taken to Glasgow and Edinburgh on Gallery visits and have visited a range of exhibitions which demonstrate the breadth of the visual arts. They have looked at proposals and then made a studio visit to Edinburgh College of Art where they met Postgraduate student, Gemma Coyle, who was on the point of completing her studies. After selecting Gemma to be the first subject of the SYC project, the Young Curators have mocked up designs for their own logo and will liaise with designers to devise a graphic identity for their project. They are apportioning their budget and will decide on how best to market each of their shows.

Gemma Coyle and Euan
By learning the process of organising and marketing an exhibition, the Young Curators are learning transferable skills which will help them in future endeavours. This project demonstrates the possibility of having an idea and following it through to fruition.
Work by new graduate Gemma Coyle will be the first exhibition to be mounted in collaboration with the SYC group. Young People’s Gallery, The Dick, 13th Aug 2005 – 29th October 2005.
